Instead of selling your underwear on Craigslist, or using the fruitcake as a doorstop, why not let your misinformed loved ones know how much you appreciate that gift by launching a missile into it? A new iOS app from director J.J. Abrams' ("Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol") production company, Bad Robot, lets you do just that. Well, virtually, anyways. According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Action Movie FX" is available on the iTunes App Store right now. The app essentially works like a plug-in for popular editing suites Adobe After Effects, for example layering ridiculous effects over video. Just shoot a scene on your iPhone, and it's then possible to suddenly have a helicopter crash into your backyard. Check out the video below for some examples. The best part: "Action Movie FX" is free. Two effects come bundled with the app, "Missile Attack" and "Car Smash," but other add-ons will cost you $.99 via in-app purchase. Currently, "Chopper Down/Tornado" and "Air Strike/Firefight" are available. More effects will release in future updates.
